Environmental inhaler impact

Only a quarter of healthcare professionals are aware that different inhalers have different environmental impacts, according to research by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The NHS Sustainable Development Unit has estimated that 3.5 per cent of the NHS’ total carbon footprint comes from pressurised metered dose inhalers (pMDIs), which have a carbon footprint approximately 18 times the carbon emissions of dry-powder inhalers (DPIs). To help address the impact of inhalers on the environment, GSK is encouraging asthmatic patients to speak with their doctor, nurse or pharmacist to discuss their options and understand if a change is right for them, based on their clinical needs.

Opening the portal

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has expanded its Health Partner portal to include pharmacy teams and respiratory brands, following the platform’s success with oral care professionals. The online resource encourages healthcare professionals to learn more about specific brands such as Piri, Sensodyne and Corsodyl, while allowing them to order products for their store directly through the platform, explains GSK. The portal will also host a range of educational resources designed to encourage conversations with patients and help healthcare professionals feel more informed when devising and implementing treatment plans, the company adds.
